NaBloPoMo’10: It’s Dead, Jim

In other First World Problem news: it looks like I’m going to have to overcome some additional adversity to post for NaBloPoMo this year.  The laptop, the computer I bought with my first paycheck from my adult person job, the purchase that sparked this monumental Sisyphean feat of paying down my consumer debt, took a crap and died.

Like I said, I knew it was coming. I just thought we had a few more good times together.

Ah, well, like the changing of the seasons, and the ebb and flow of the tides, so must our technology die.

The upside is that 90% of the documents, pictures, and music that I needed was either backed up on my external hard drive, or in my Google Docs.  So, there’s very little that I will really miss.

The last time I had a computer crash on me, I was in college, and it caused a complete shitfit meltdown.  Again, I think I was way better prepared for this crash this time around.  Thank God that “the cloud” is more prevalent, and I’ve been burned by computer crashing in the past.

The downside is that since I wasn’t ready for this to happen so soon, I don’t have enough money to get a new computer…at least not now.  For now, Christmas comes first.

Perhaps, if I am a good bean, Santa will bring me one for Christmahannukwaanzayule.

ETA: The title of this post actually is looted from K, who used this exact phrase when her computer died.
“There’s something wrong with my computer,” she said.
“Really?  What’s wrong with it?” I asked.
“It’s dead, Jim.”
